balance sheets and seduction of investors

After the industrial boom at the start of last century, the 1980s and 90s saw a new outlook for preservation of the environment. Governments and industries came to believe new policies were necessary to protect the environment and life.
Various solutions began to flower in the minds of consultants and managers, and costly programs of reengineering, total quality and systematized management, among others, were widely disseminated and implemented, with the aim of minimizing the impacts of unrestrained exploitation, in the broad sense.
