Social Responsibility of SCA - Beneficial Institutions

Círculo dos Amigos do Menino Patrulheiro - CAMP Mangueira

This is a program that seeks to complement teenagers’ education by preparing them for the job market. Conducted in various regions of Brazil, it was established in Rio’s Mangueira shantytown, with some adaptations, to train young people in routine office tasks.

All the students take classes in job basics, telemarketing, sexual orientation, hygiene and health, as well as special tutoring in Portuguese and math. The project has already helped roughly 5,000 youths, through job placement arrangements with some 170 companies, giving first-job experience to needy youths, as called for in Law 6494/77.

The participating companies undertake to pay the minimum monthly wage, plus meal and transportation assistance to their interns, and an additional 25% of the minimum wage to CAMP, earmarked to pay workers compensation insurance and administrative costs. The firms also pledge to keep the adolescent workers on staff until they reach 18, except in cases of improper behavior.
