Lar de Frei Luiz (Friar Luiz house) is a nonprofit charitable institution that provides social assistance for those in need and also spiritual help and medical and dental treatment to the public in general.
It currently has 11 group homes for children and youths (approximately 220 in all). There is also one house for 30 elderly people and one for 30 infants younger than two years of age.

It provides outpatient medical care, laboratory exams and dental treatment to poor people, as well as supplying medicines and food to its patients free of charge. Finally, every month it distributes staple food baskets to elderly residents in its neighborhood, along with clothing and food for the homeless.
